[mysterious music playing] is a playful homage to the art of analogue film sound creation, also known as 'Foley'. The narrative core of Vinyl-terror & -horror's sound performance is a collage of found film clips with subtitles for the hearing impaired describing various sounds, moods, or specific actions. Removed from their original cinematic context, the film sequences are edited to form an open-ended narrative with eerie undertones. This hour-long montage of subtitles, each grabbed from a large pool of different films and TV series, is accompanied by a live turntable set, a pre-recorded soundtrack, and mechanical 'foley automatons' that interpret the sounds described in a dialectical and humorous way, leaving room for the viewer to fill in the blanks.

[mysterious music playing] plays with how we automatically construct meanings and contexts from narrative 'cues', exploring the narrative possibilities and limitations of image, text, and music. [mysterious music playing]
